OUR STORY

Wayward's founder Peter Philip has travelled the globe in search of little-known beer styles and old-world brewing techniques. He loves the idea of beers that you can only find in one place, beer worth travelling for, and that mindset is really what Wayward is all about.

A long-time homebrewer, Pete finally launched the brand back in 2012. After a few years of gypsy brewing out of Illawara Brewing Company – where he met Wayward's Head Brewer Shaun Blissett — Pete and Shaun finally opened the doors to our Camperdown brewery and taproom in October 2015.

The Wayward team has since grown to an entire crew of avid travellers and beer lovers. We believe every adventure should end with a really good brew. So we'll see you at the finish line — beer in hand.

OUR BREWERY

Brewery

At Wayward, we brew for adventure. We're pushing the limits to create beer worth travelling for, and we guarantee you'll find something to love here — whether your thing is hop bombs, or dark beers, or weird and wonderful sours, or just a classic, sessionable pale ale.

Our core range focuses on crowd pleasers that are accessible but distinctive. These little change-ups to beer style norms – like using English malts in our Everyday Ale or single hopping our Pilsner — set our brews apart. Wayward is also one of the few breweries with a core range sour, and our Raspberry Berliner Weisse has become a true namesake for the brand.

Apart from the core range, we brew a new seasonal release every month of the year, just to keep things interesting. We try to choose styles that are fun and offer something a little different — whether that's coffee and coconut stouts, peach and vanilla sours or barrel aged farmhouse ales.

Our most experimental beers come out of the Brewers' Pilot System, which is only available at the Wayward Taproom, and lets our locals try out our most exclusive, small batch brews.

We feel you don’t need to over complicate things to produce a quality, tasty product — and so Wayward beers use all-natural ingredients that are preservative free, unpasteurised and unfiltered.

OUR TAPROOM

Located in the bones of a former wine cellar, our expansive, underground Taproom boasts 24 taps and a lot of character. Our bartenders are local legends that love to have a chat and treat our regulars like part of the Wayward family. Pull up a bar stool in the main bar, or hole up in one of the old wine vats, which have been converted into cosy drinking dens with speakeasy vibes.

Behind the bar, you'll find a regularly rotating tap list that's turning out much more than just hazy brews and pale ales; we're also slinging barrel aged beers, kettle sours, smoked porters and four types of W Seltzer (to name a few) — along with Das Juice rose, red and white wine, cider and soft drinks. Our Brewers' Pilot Series offers Taproom exclusives from the Wayward brew team, and we continue to support the local and international craft brew scene through our guest taps.

Like our brews, our Taproom is a bit off the beaten path, but still adjacent to the Marrickville craft beer bubble. Dogs and families are welcome, as are punters of all ages. You bring the mates, we'll pour the pints.
